Watershed Management Board (WSMB) Division, Pollachi

       The Watershed Management Board Division with its Headquarters at Pollachi has been formed as per GO. Ms. No. 857 dt 26.5.73. This Division is engaged in undertaking sedimentation and watershed management studies in selected reservoirs/tanks in Tamilnadu for arriving upto date reduction in capacity due to sedimentation. Assess the useful life of reservoir and to suggest the remedial watershed management measures to be undertaken in order to arrest the sediment entry into reservoirs from the watershed.

Integrated Bathymetric System has been obtained   from MOWR, GOI using Hydrology Project Funds of World Bank. By using this system, the survey study was carried out in Sathanur Reservoir.

Studies to be taken up

It is proposed to conduct the sedimentation studies in 50 reservoirs in Tamil Nadu within a time frame of 5 years under Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement project (DRIP)

IRRIGATION RESEARCH FUND( IRF)

  • Under TNIAMWARM, Irrigation Research Advisory Committee (IRAC) is established and the fund is used to foster research in Irrigation Development and Management.
  • IRAC was constituted in the G.O.Ms.No.250 PW (WR1) dated : 30.09.2013 to approve proposal under the Irrigation Research Fund funded under IAMWARM project
  • The Director, IHH, Poondi is a Member Secretary for IRAC.
  • 7 Research proposals are being carried out by different agencies at an estimated amount of Rs. 152.94 lakhs.
